Explorations
Part of AT Research Services mission is to "stimulate uses of new technologies" for our campus research community. We are continually evaluating emerging technologies, whether they are new tools or updates of existing technology. Some examples of current explorations include:
Collaborative tools
Personal Access Grids
This software allows desktops or laptops to be used to participate in Access Grid Meetings.Virtual Meeting Tools
Eluminate software is used to hold moderator-led web-based meetings.
High performance computing
MPI Blast
This is a parallel processing technique used to run large Blast jobs.
Distributed Java applications
This project uses standard java tools to create a distributed computin resource.
Grid Computing
Grid Portals
Grid portals seek to simplify access to computational grids and grid-based resources.
Visualization
3D Printer
3D printers create hand-held objects from computer generated 3d models. A Dimension SST Printer is installed in the metal arts studio.
Immersive Data Mining tool for Bioinformatics
SaraGene, a virtual reality tool developed at the Dutch Supercomputing Center, is being installed and configured and should be ready for demonstrations and pilot studies toward the end of the Fall 04 semester.
