Funding opportunities for faculty
Academic Technologies Advisory Council – Innovations in Instructional Computing Awards
http://at.its.uiowa.edu/atac/awards
The goal of this program is to raise the level of instructional computing at The University of Iowa by supporting significant and innovative instructional computing projects that have the potential to improve the education provided to students throughout the university. In the spirit of innovation, all new ideas are welcome, but the focus must be on instruction. Priority will be given to projects that, if proven successful, can be replicated throughout the university. Cross-disciplinary projects are encouraged, but not required.
The Academic Technologies Advisory Council oversees the program which awards up to $100,000 each year to projects. The number of awards will be determined by the quality of the applications. A single award or multiple awards may be made. Applications can be made to support the costs of hardware, software, and personnel. Funding is not available to support faculty salaries.
Council on Teaching – Instructional Innovation Awards

These funds are available to support instructional initiatives that will make exceptional or specific contributions to learning. The awards ordinarily do not exceed a funding level of $5,000. Faculty salaries will not be funded. In general, the Council has few preconceived notions about the range of acceptable proposals and will evaluate proposals on a case-by-case basis. However, normal course revision efforts do not fall within the scope of the program. Proposals for development of new courses and new course materials will be considered as well as requests to fund faculty travel to teaching workshops to aid in this type of development. Except in very rare cases, awards will not be made to continue projects begun with funding from a previous Instructional Improvement Award. The Council will not fund a proposal whose author received an award in the previous year.
College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Student Computing Fees Proposals

The CLAS Instructional Technologies Committee annually distributes a portion of the college's Student Computing Fees to departments in the college to support their use of technology. The Committee invites proposals for the use of these funds to maintain and to improve the College’s academic computing infrastructure. The committee is soliciting a broad range of proposals including requests to renew or revitalize existing computing facilities, or to establish new initiatives in educational computing. Units may request one-time funding or recurring funding for up to four years. A list of funded proposals from the last two years can be found at: http://www.clas.uiowa.edu/it/scf.pdf.
There will be two categories of funding for proposals:
- Category A–Renewal of Computing Infrastructure
This category will fund the renewal and revitalization of existing computing infrastructure. The intent is to support the operation, maintenance, and regular upgrade of computing facilities, and to facilitate long-range planning. Renewal requests must justify continued funding by explaining the role of facilities in teaching and demonstrating the effectiveness with which they have been used. - Category B–New Initiatives
This category covers new computing projects. This category will fund the creation of new—or significant expansion of existing—facilities or projects. It is designed to fund projects that address unmet computing needs, including general or specialized labs, innovative uses of instructional technology, and improved accessibility to computing hardware and/or software.
