Atlas of Early Printing

The Atlas of Early Printing is the culmination of an idea that first occurred to me over ten years ago. At the time, the technology for delivering interactive content on the internet was primitive. Today, technology has advanced to a point where The Atlas of Early Printing is now a reality, but only through the efforts of many people. This site was made possible by an Innovations in Instructional Computing award from the Academic Technologies Advisory Council at the University of Iowa, and the support of the University of Iowa Libraries, Academic Technologies, and Information Technology Services at the University of Iowa. link to site

Radiology Project

In November of 2006 the UIHC Department of Radiology requested an online application to demonstrate sectional anatomy from CT Scans/Xray for the Fall 2007 semester. Using Department of Radiology funding we developed an instructional Flash application to highlight human anatomy in CT Scans/Xray. Thus allowing students to learn how to distinguish human anatomy within CT Scans/Xray. The program resides in ICON is only available to UIHC Radiology students enrolled in the course.

Video Assisted Clinical Instruction in Dentistry

Instructional Services is working with the College of Dentistry’s Department of Periodontics to augment their Video Camera Project.  Funded by the Center for Teaching and the Department of Periodontics, the Video Camera Project was completed in January, 2006.  The project funded the purchase of an audiovisual setup, including a ceiling-mounted video camera with a remote-controlled zoom lens and a video monitor, to record live clinical procedures and transmit them to a remote audience.

Shortly after the completion of the Video Camera Project, Instructional Services began working with Dr. Ali Fakhry to develop an application to organize and deliver a collection of videos in the College of Dentistry. A prototype is now ready for Dr. Fakhry to use.  The prototype consists of a web-enabled Filemaker Pro database that is used to catalog videos and an application developed using Flash that allows students to search the catalog and play back videos.   Link to site

Iowa Journalists Oral History Project

Iowa is home to more newspapers per capita than any other state. Iowa has 41 daily and 298 weekly newspapers spread out through the state's 99 counties. That abundance of newspapers has made Iowa into a national laboratory. For more than a century, newspapers have been an essential tool for Iowans, particularly rural Iowans, in developing a sense of community building.

The Iowa Journalists Oral History Project is an effort to recover a media history never before told.  Link to site
