QuickTime Streaming Server Upgrade

On January 13th, 2009 ITS upgraded the QuickTime streaming server with newer hardware and software.

The upgrade did not impact access for viewers of existing content.

However, if you upload QuickTime content using a Windows computer there is a minor adjustment you need to make.

Windows XP/Vista Content Creators
Mac OS X Content Creators

The address Windows content creators use to access the QuickTime server changed. This is especially important if you’ve mapped a network drive as it may no longer function as expected.

Now, Windows content creators connect with

\\quicktime.uiowa.edu

From there you navigate to the folder you have been assigned rights to.

Content creators who upload using Mac OS X should be able to upload as before:

smb://quicktime.uiowa.edu

If this changes, or fails to work, you will be alerted immediately with new access instructions.

As a clarification, existing content has already been moved and should work exactly as before. User playback should be unaffected by this upgrade. Users of the ITS Windows Media and Flash servers are also unaffected by this change.

This new server is up and running, so please feel free to test your access rights.
