President's Instructional Technology Innovation Award
Overview
The President’s Instructional Technology Innovation Award recognizes creative use of technology in teaching at The University of Iowa. The award is presented at an awards ceremony in the fall semester and includes a $5000 cash prize.

Nominations are due Friday, May 2, 2008 at 5:00PM . Please see instructions at the bottom of this page for submitting nomination materials. Any UI faculty, staff or student may nominate someone. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Short History of Awards
The President's Instructional Technology Innovation Award was started in 1998 by then UI President Mary Sue Coleman. The award was established to recognize and highlight the wealth of creative instructional technology being used in University courses. Winners from past years include faculty and staff from throughout campus
Nomination Process
Who is eligible
Nominees for this award may be any University faculty or staff who has used technology in innovative ways to prepare or present materials in an instructional setting. Teams may also be nominated (students may be part of teams led by faculty or staff). The technology should be “in place and operational” and have been used in a University instructional setting.
What Technologies
Eligible innovations may be creations developed for a specific teaching purpose, or unique or clever applications of existing technologies. A list of past winners may be viewed to provide some context for your submission. Typical applicants might be those who have won an Innovations in Instructional Computing Award.
Deadline and Submission address
Nominations must be submitted by May 2, 2008.

Nomination materials
- Written Description (up to 3 pages) including:
- Technology Overview – Describe the technology that was used. Descriptions must be written in language that non-experts can understand. Include CD’s or URL’s, if available.
- Instructional Strategies – Describe how the technology was used in instructing students.
- Impact – Describe the instructional impact of the technology. Be specific and include course names, number of students served, statistics showing how the technology improved student learning, and a description of the life cycle of this application of the technology.
- Innovation – Describe how this is an innovative technology or application of the technology.
- Other uses: If applicable, describe how this technology could be used in other areas such as instructional applications in other departments or as a research tool.
- 1 to 3 letters of support for the nomination
- CV of the nominee(s).
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by the Academic Technologies Advisory Committee. Selection criteria include the following (in order of importance):
- Innovation – How creative is the innovation?
- Instructional enhancement – Does the innovation improve instruction?
- Instructional impact – How many students/courses use this innovation? What is the lifespan of the innovation?
Timeline for Award Process
- May 2, 2008– Nominations due
- June 6, 2008– Winner selected
- Fall 2008– Winner announced and prize presented at awards ceremony.
